"I am still benefiting from The Healthy Sleep programme I completed last year. It has changed my outlook on life and work immensely. It turns out I like being a vet when I have had adequate sleep! All jokes aside, since doing the course and implementing Iain’s recommendations I have had no problems sleeping, I have had more energy and no longer find my job as a vet anywhere near as stressful as I used to. I can’t praise the course highly enough. Iain worked with each of us on the course to work out our own individual obstacles and to put a plan in place for change and it worked! The course was enjoyable, professional and tailored to the attendees needs.”
Veterinary surgeon, programme delegate Working in the veterinary profession can be incredibly rewarding but it can of course also be stressful. Trying to balance working to a high standard, managing everyone's expectations (including your own) and getting everything done can feel exhausting. Exhaustion can lead to mistakes, lack of reward and enjoyment of our role in veterinary practice as well as life in general. One of the fundamental ways that we replenish our physical, emotional and cognitive energy is through the process of sleep. Getting a better quality of sleep can improve your health productivity, performance and happiness. That is why elite athletes make sleep health a priority. Yet so many of us regard sleep as an inconvenient part of our day, an add on or a ‘nice to have’ rather than an essential. That is until staying asleep becomes an issue… Our NEW Healthy Sleep programme offers 7 hours of CPD that will help you to press pause and to reflect on what's working, what's not working and what needs to change. You'll get clarity on what sleep actually is, dispelling some old myths along the way, as well as learn how to make sleep habits work for you in your world. Dr Iain Price is a neuroscientist, trainer and coach with a love of science and communication. He combines his own personal experiences with his professional expertise and knowledge to help you help yourself when it comes to improving the quality of your sleep.
Who is the course for?
The course is for anyone working in veterinary practice who would like to learn and do more about their sleep health.
Key learning objectives & outcomes
What does the programme involve?
Healthy Sleep is a five stage programme that consists of three online learning modules, delivered through an online learning platform. Each module includes a series of short videos, an exercise and a one-hour group coaching session. Join Iain for a regular group coaching session to reflect on each of the areas you’ll learn about on the course and how to embed habits that encourage healthy sleep, supported by Iain and alongside colleagues from the profession. This sustained learning method helps to embed the behaviours and gives you chance to implement and feedback on the tools that you learn. Also included as part of the programme are two follow up sessions a month apart, to support you as you reflect on any changes you have made and embed your new habits and routines. You’ll have access to the online programme straightaway with the live sessions taking place every two weeks at 7pm starting on Tuesday 26 March 2024.
Module list
We spend roughly a third of our lives sleeping or at least trying to do so. As important as we know sleep is for us, do you really know what sleep is? What it does? And what makes your sleep healthy? This module gives you an overview of what sleep, what are some of the common Group coaching session: Tuesday 26 March 2024 7pm-8pm Coach: Iain PriceModule objectives & outcomes
Sleeping is part of our daily cycle – our circadian rhythm. The way we make and maintain this rhythm is habitual. That is, we tend to do things that make up our day without really consciously thinking about them. So often our issues with our sleep-life are actually related to the habits and routines in our waking-life. In this module we will look at the inputs to your internal body-clock and how these are and can be artificially manipulated - for better as well as for worse. Being more intentional and taking greater control of your daily habits and routines will help improve the quality of your sleep. This module will help you gain a greater appreciation and control of your circadian rhythm and how to work more in harmony, rather than against, your chronotype. “We are [and become] what we repeatedly do” Aristotle. Throughout our lives we retain the capacity to learn and retrain new skills and habits thanks to neuroplasticity. That is, the ‘wiring’ that encodes the behaviour at both the conscious and subconscious levels is changeable. Embedding your new healthier sleep routines will set you up for the likelihood of better quality and more fulfilling sleep. This requires deliberate effort and persistence. A brain left on autopilot is unlikely to change. In this module we use understanding and power of neuroplasticity to reconfigure our habits and routines so you can maintain your healthy sleep. Even with the very best training or coaching in the world, the only way to see real lasting improvement is from the deliberate and reflective practice by the participant. In other words, as you probably already know, the lasting effectiveness of any learning is always going to be limited without enabling an embedding or consolidation phase. This is also part of neuroplasticity. Research suggests that it probably takes at least 66 days to make a new habit stick- hence why so many new year’s resolutions fall by the wayside. To give you the best start for success we include 2 follow-up group coaching sessions in this ‘Healthy Sleep’ course. In these sessions we support the process of you finding and adapting what works for you to regularly get a better quality of sleep. Once you have booked your place, you will receive information by email on how to join the online platform and register for the live sessions. Live sessions are recorded in case you cannot make them but, to get the most out of this course, we strongly encourage you to attend as many of the live sessions in real time as you can.
